RC MAKER Product Description:
Introducing our SlimFlex HARD Carbon Chassis for the Mugen MTC-2 and MTC-2R!
The Mugen MTC2 features a unique chassis design that is already very flat, in this case we decided to work on the flex point of the chassis to ensure we could optimize the flex and also the stiffness of the chassis.
This particular chassis in the HARD version features a much stiffer carbon weave which greatly reduces flex. The flex of this carbon chassis fills a large gap between a standard carbon chassis and an aluminum chassis, making it the optimal choice for medium traction asphalt and low traction carpet! Often times track conditions can result in the need for an "in-between" option where an aluminum chassis is too stiff and makes the car too easy to drive and slow down, while a carbon chassis is too aggressive or difficult to drive to be consistent. On this HARD version we have also removed the weight cutouts under the steering as they are rarely used by Mugen's top drivers, further increasing the stiffness in the front of the chassis. This stiff carbon chassis is the perfect middle ground for your Mugen MTC2!
A key change to the SlimFlex chassis is the removal of the "through" coil and diff cutouts. We have only recessed these 1mm deep allowing for a stiffer front and rear axle. This directs the flex back to the centre of the chassis resulting in smoother handling. The MTC2 has no shock towers to stiffen the bulkheads which results in excessive flex in the bulkheads which whilst improving steering also makes the car unstable. Thanks to the cutouts there is now significantly less horizontal flex between the bulkheads so you can run without bracing or with thinner bracing such as our Med Flex Link or Bulkhead/Topdeck Flex Dampeners and not get as much flex in the bulkheads on the horizontal axis but retain the "caster flex" to improve steering. In addition the cutouts also improve aerodynamics as not as much air can enter the chassis which ultimately improves downforce.
We have also removed the 0.25mm recess on the bulkheads, engine mount and suspension bushings. In our opinion this recess significantly reduces the strength of the holes in the chassis as the outer (strongest) layer of the carbon is removed. This reduces the amount of material under the bolt and exposes the fibres, making it much easier to pull the bolts through the chassis in a crash. Removing these also allows the use of our brand new Roll Centre Shim Plates!
Finally, the chassis profile has been changed to move the chassis flex point forward overall. Since the front Mugen profile is significantly wider than the rear, we widened the rear profile to a more normal width relative to the front of the chassis. This moves the flex point forward and stiffens the chassis at the rear, ultimately resulting in more steering, which is almost always required on tarmac! This widening also increases the strength of the chassis in the shock mount area, which is usually very exposed on the standard chassis.
All of these features combine to create a chassis that we believe offers more steering and cornering speed while keeping the car easy to drive and stable.
Our chassis are precision cut and countersunk on our in-house CNC machine in Australia from high-quality 3K 2.2mm carbon.
Characteristics:
Stiff carbon construction to increase rigidity, perfect for medium traction asphalt and low to medium traction carpet
Removal of weight holes under the handlebar for increased rigidity
Optimized chassis profile for improved steering on asphalt tracks
Recessed diff and spool cutouts for optimal flex and aerodynamics
No 0.25 mm recess, which increases durability in case of accidents
Increased material thickness around important mounting holes for greater durability
Can be used with our new roll center leveling plates for quick roll center adjustment
Precision CNC machined in Australia from high quality 3K 2.2mm Carbon Fiber
